Tiger Woods was unfaithful to his wife, Elin Nordegren. Not only that, he accompanied the cheating with some pretty awful extras. They are now divorced, apparently and understandably, because that’s what Elin wanted, even considering having two children with Tiger.
Eliot Spitzer was unfaithful to his wife, Silda. Not only that, he accompanied the cheating with some pretty awful extras including possible illegalities. They are now divorced, apparently and understandably, because that’s what Silda wanted, even considering having three children with Eliot.
Now both Tiger and Eliot have serious girlfriends. And these girlfriends are, both of them, attractive and accomplished women, not women one would generally think of as desperate for any man at all.
Why would a woman choose a man with a history like Tiger Woods or Eliot Spitzer, with this character, this seeming disregard for his wife and children, and unconcern for his reputation and his career?
A woman might choose a man like this (and it could be a perfectly average man or woman who has the same story) because he’s someone new and newness is an attraction.
A woman might choose a man like this because this new woman doesn’t know everything about his background and didn’t experience the effects personally; also she’s not making any efforts to delve into what she doesn’t know; maybe she has a feeling she wouldn’t be happy with what she’d find. Certainly the man is not encouraging her to look further.
Also she might choose a man like this because she is someone who tends to believe the best and ignore the worst.
She might choose a man like this because he has money; and also because he is a celebrity who can bring her into glamorous and exciting worlds.
Also she may feel she can help him overcome the burdens of his past; and because at least at one point he is a man who made a commitment to a woman.
These are some of the reasons this seemingly inexplicable choice becomes an understandable choice.
